Omaha, Nebraska - On August 17, 1970 the Omaha Police Department responded to a 911 emergency phone call. The caller reported a woman screaming for help from a vacant house at 2867 Ohio Street. The police arrived at the scene and did not find any screaming woman. Near the doorway of the house a suitcase was found, which the officers stepped over to get into the house. The officers conducted a search of the house when an explosion occurred. Police officer Larry Minard, who was adjacent to the suitcase, was killed instantly.
An investigation revealed the suitcase contained dynamite and was armed to explode if moved. Duane Peak, age 15, was arrested for placing the bomb and charged with first degree murder. In an attempt to lighten his sentence, Peak implicated Mondo we Langa and Edward Poindexter. Simply put, they are innocent.
